GSDC 2009 was a success

Posted: December 8, 2009 in Uncategorized

Hi guys,

The Great Serdang Debate Championship was a success as we had 52 teams coming to join us this year. We were very happy that after 8 long months of preparation and postponement and disappointment, we finally made it. I would like to thank all participating institutions from Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia for joining GSDC. It was awesome that I finally got to meet everyone who has been in contact with me via email. It was nice to know you all and indeed friendship was fostered. I hope everyone enjoyed the tournament.

My thanks to the adjudication core, Sharmila , Kandahar, Surfi and Aman. You guys were part of the family and having you guys around was the reason GSD was a success. It was great to work with you guys.

Below are the motions for GSD 2009

R1 : THW abolish vernacular schools

R2: THW allow doctors to charge higher service fees for patients who lead unhealthy lifestlyes

R3: THBT all countries have the right to own nuclear weapons

R4: THBT the hijab is a symbol of female oppresion

R5: THBT the EU should remove all laws against holocaust denial.

Quarter-finals: THBT religious sites are legitimate military targets in times of war

Semi-finals: THW try Israel for war crimes

Grand Final: THW televise corruption trial against Malaysian public officers

I hope everyone had a good time debating the motions we have for GSD 2009. We’ll see everyone when the next GSD should take place. We’ll keep everyone posted from time to time and hope to keep in touch with everyone. Until then,  I’m Anthony, signing off for GSD 2009.

Welcome Delegates

Posted: November 30, 2009 in Uncategorized

Dear Delegates,
As months and days pass by, we here in UPM are getting more and more excited in welcoming all of you here. In our effort to ensure all of you will have an enjoyable time during the tournament, we have been busting our guts in making arrangements for you all. We hope to do our best to provide a good and warm hospitality to all when we see all of you here soon.

Our goals for the Great Serdang Debate Championship are to strengthen the understanding, appreciation and to enhance the ability to analyze issues among local and international debaters. Other than that, we hope this tournament  would once again establish Tun Dr Ismail College as the sole host of The Great Serdang Debate where by GSD will prove to be the best debate platform for all debaters in this region.

In our attempt to achieve these goals, we the organizer are putting our fullest   commitment in this. We hope all the delegates can share their thoughts and comments with us, so that we can make improvements in our proponents or advocacy. Therefore for the next GSD to come, we can provide you a better hospitality.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank and salute all my committee members for their commitment and hard work in making the 5th Great Serdang Debate Championship as big as this. I would also like to extend my fullest gratitude to our generous sponsors who have been so kind to sponsor GSD and help us to make this dream of ours a reality. Thank you very much.

Being the one and only host for The Great Serdang Debate Championship, we are delighted to welcome all of you to this tournament and through this tournament as well, we will utilize this opportunity to show our culture and societies to the world.

Thank You

Good news to all,

On behalf of the GSDC committee, I would like to annouce that our DCAs for this year’s tourney will be Sarfaraz Ahmed a.k.a Surfi and Shoaib Rahim a.k.a Kandahar. We are very proud to have Surfi and Kandahar in our adjudication core this year. With their adjudication experience and reputable background, I am sure GSDC this year will be a blast. And with Sharmila leading the core, we now have a strong adjudication core which I am proud to say the strongest ever in GSDC’s history.

We are looking forward to see everyone soon.
